Hudson Bay is a jewel of Manitoba, one worth protecting. The proposal to build a pipeline and ship LNG through the Port of Churchill would have devastating impacts for climate change, health, the environment, and the economy. This project would put Manitoba communities, lands, and waters at risk.

Context:

• Premier Kinew and Prime Minister Carney are proposing to fast-track a pipeline and an export terminal to ship LNG from Hudson Bay by 2030.
• Fast-tracking this major infrastructure threatens to undermine proper environmental assessment and free, prior, and informed consent with Indigenous rights-holders.
• This project is not in the interest of Manitobans; it would subsidize fossil fuel companies, while leaving communities with all the risk. It would create minimal economic benefits (construction jobs and provincial revenue) since the fossil gas is produced elsewhere. There are currently no commitments from private-sector proponents, which shows how risky and untenable the project is.
• Building a pipeline and LNG export terminal at Churchill would have devastating climate and environmental impacts. The Government of Manitoba cannot claim progress on climate action while advancing this project.
